The Municipal Art Society of New York is a non commercial organization. This institute offers you an overview of the historical heritage, the preservations of the physical structures in an across the city of New York. The Municipal Art Society has always operated to preserve the heritage of the city, since 1893. The institution mainly looks after the work of art, contemporary architecture, and historical conservations, planning and urban designing. The Art Society mainly aims to encourage the desire of living, in a better planned and cleaner city.

Library:

The reference library of New York's Municipal Art Society was founded in 1978. It is situated in the third floor of the Urban Centre. Previously it was called The Information Exchange/Greenacre Reference Resource and later on, it was named the TIE. This library is famous for its quality preservation of inventories that relate to the details of constructions and subjects relating to the natural environment of the city. This department has a voluminous and outstanding compilation of more than thousand books, journals, paper cuttings, local newsletters and weekly magazines. Here you get a vast and rich resource of New York's historical preservations, urban planning, real estate prospects, material on zonal developments, open areas and work of art.
Queries are solved through letters, e-mail, fax, phone or you can also pay a visit. Programs and Tours:

The Municipal Art Society hosts a series of public programs, exhibitions, publications, award-winning walking tours and lectures. The members-only breakfast briefings are very informative programs that give you an overview about the recent projects that have been conducted by the museum. The tours are generally handled by professional architects, scholars and historians. The programs mainly take place at the Urban Centre at East 51st Street.
Here you can do research work on the emergence of Jane Jacobs, and her influential approach about modern urban plan. You get to know about the historical and social perspective. Various programs are carried out on the issue of urban ventures, re-formation and its preservation.
The CLE classes deals with legal matters, cost related to business and housing areas, economic and small scale diversifications. The programs also include exploring the city of New York in a different way.
The institution carries several educative and professional courses right through the year, to spread the mission of the organization.
The walking tours are planned to emphasize on modern-day architecture, urban design, art and historical preservation. This tour charges $15 per visitor and $12 for the members of MAS. The walking tours include various programs like Urban Detectives, Downtown Deco: Symbols and Spires, Battery Park City: A New Neighborhood Rises and Manhattanville: A Neighborhood in Flux. Other programs include examples like Sunnyside to Jackson Heights: More Space and New Arrangements, LOMEX Remembered, Sunset Park, What's Up? Brooklyn's Changing Downtown and many such programs.

Streetscapes

The Municipal Art Society of New York works with the other community groups for the preservation of the streets in the city and public places. The New York streets and the sidewalks are the most significant part of the city. The organization and the selected officials work together to raise public awareness on civic values and cleanliness. This also makes it convenience for the city government. Both the committees and organize several events to fulfill their motto.

The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance

The Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance is another project attempted by the Municipal Art Society of New York. Since 1999 the project serves as a channel for almost 300 organizations devoted for the region and the conservation of its resources.
