Mulberry Street
(between Grand and Canal)
New York, NY
The Little Italy community has thrived since its 19th century
origins when thousands of new immigrants lived in the crowded
Lower East Side. Its proud community spirit is exhibited every
September for ten days (starting around the 9th) as three million
Italians of all nationalities enjoy the food, the games, the
festive atmosphere and, of course, the food. Sausage, calamari,
pizza, pasta and pastries attract the crowds and the party
atmosphere keeps them on the streets 'til the wee hours. Since
1926, this feast is New Yorks biggest, oldest and most lively
block party.
