Description

Remember the old joke, “Who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?” Well, no one is. However, Ulysses S. Grant, American Civil War general and former president of the United States, and his wife, Julia, are entombed in the mausoleum, which sits in the Morningside Heights section of Manhattan. Designated by the US Congress as General Grant National Memorial, the structure is managed by the National Park Service, as it is located in a prominent position in Riverside Park overlooking the Hudson River. Grant’s Tomb offers a visitors center, free tours and even some special events, including Tomb at Night, which is a part of NYC’s famous annual openhousenewyork.
