Die erste Produktion dieses Spielhauses in East Village wurde am 17. Januar 1968 eröffnet und war The Indian Wants the Bronx mit einem sehr wenig bekannten Schauspieler namens Al Pacino. Seitdem hat es sich den Ruf eines Ortes erworben, der sich für experimentelle Arbeiten einsetzt, darunter die seit langem bestehende Blue Man Group, die dort 1991 begann. Das Theater befindet sich in der berühmten Colonnade Row in der Lafayette Street.
