Esta exposición de 75 pinturas es la primera retrospectiva de este artista alemán que, a menudo, sobrevivió a la era nazi a pesar de pasar el tiempo en el Campo de Concentración de Sachsenhausen en 1938. Su trabajo inicial muestra mitos antiguos y su regreso a la pintura después de 1945 produjo una variedad de paisajes sin figuras humanas que expresaban su agitación interior.
