The Bronx Zoo

2300 Southern Blvd.
At 265 acres, the biggest city zoo in the United States has plenty to explore, with exhibits like the Congo Gorilla Forest and Himalayan Highlands. We’re partial to Tiger Mountain, especially with the display’s latest additions: Nadia and Azul, two Malayan tiger cubs.

Van Cortlandt House Museum
2
Van Cortlandt Park
The oldest building in the Bronx was built in 1748 and has been open to the public since 1897. Inside, check out furniture from the era and get a glimpse of New York life in the 18th century—crafting, cooking and farming.
3
Edgar Allan Poe Cottage
3
2640 Grand Concourse
The last residence of the famed author is restored to its original appearance—creepy and disturbing! Just kidding. It’s a fine country home, where anyone, macabre or not, might enjoy a little journaling à la “Annabel Lee” and “The Cask of Amontillado” (both of which were penned here). Tour Poe’s former abode and check out the art exhibitions in the visitor’s center.

Hudson Garden Grill

New York Botanical Garden
Soak in the idyllic sights of the New York Botanical Garden while enjoying a meal at the garden’s fine-dining restaurant. The menu fits the verdant setting, focusing on seasonal, farm-to-table dishes like sweet corn succotash and halibut with ramps and purple cauliflower.

This 250-acre garden is the perfect getaway for those craving some open green space in the City. A million plants dot the grounds, a number of them in the glass Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, which features tropical palms, desert cacti and aquatic flora.

Bronx Library Center
6
310 E. Kingsbridge Rd.
Get lost in six floors of book-filled stacks at this New York Public Library branch. Established in 2006, it’s not only the largest public library in the Bronx but also the first LEED-certified, green one in NYC.
