Una caminata por las calles de Chinatown

El barrio chino de Manhattan, un barrio del centro de la ciudad situado a un grito del puente Manhattan, rebosa actividad durante el horario laboral. Los puestos de producción, los herbolarios, los especialistas en carne asada, las tiendas de regalos y los encantadores restaurantes con hoyos en la pared predominan en el nivel de la calle. La señalización en chino adorna las fachadas de los edificios y los toldos de las tiendas, lo que se suma a la naturaleza internacional de la zona. Su nombre y carácter datan del siglo XIX, cuando los inmigrantes se establecieron en un grupo alrededor de Pell, Doyers y Mott Streets; desde entonces, el vecindario se ha extendido y, a pesar del auge de los otros dos barrios chinos principales de la ciudad, en Queens' Flushing y Brooklyn's Sunset Park, por no mencionar las áreas más pequeñas de esos dos distritos, sigue siendo el más atractivo para los visitantes.
