Description

Starting in the 1880s, many stage and film productions cast Black actors in roles, attempting to counter prevailing prejudices and stereotypes. While the productions were still flawed, the marketing of “All Colored Revues” represented a step in the right direction. Many of these movies no longer exist, and the stage performances were rarely recorded, but posters for the productions remain in evidence. The Poster House displays a collection of these from the late 1800s through the 1940s, commemorating a significant moment in Black storytelling.
