Each September 11, the City honors the victims, first responders and survivors of the 2001 tragedy. Families of the victims gather for a ceremony on the plaza, where the names of the men, women and children who perished are read aloud. The museum is closed to visitors that day due to the ceremonies taking place. At sundown, the Tribute of Light is lit in Lower Manhattan, representing the Twin Towers. The City also has several smaller memorials throughout the boroughs, including the and the . Note that the (which represents firefighter Stephen Siller's final steps and pays homage to all the first responders and victims) takes place on September 29 this year.
