Anniversary of September 11
Sep 11, 2026
Description
Each September 11, the City honors the victims, first responders and survivors of the 2001 tragedy. Families of the victims gather for a ceremony on the September 11 Memorial & Museum plaza, where the names of the men, women and children who perished are read aloud. The museum is closed to visitors that day due to the ceremonies taking place. At sundown, the Tribute in Light is lit in Lower Manhattan, representing the Twin Towers. For more events taking place across the boroughs for the 25th anniversary, see our list.
The City also has several smaller memorials throughout the boroughs, including the Staten Island September 11 Memorial and the Brooklyn 9/11 Wall of Remembrance.
