Apollo's Muse: The Moon in the Age of Photography
This event has already occurred
Description
While photography of the moon increased exponentially following Apollo 11's landing on July 20, 1969, those types of pictures date back to the mid-19th century. This exhibit features more than 170 photographs together with drawings, prints, films and the cameras that traveled to space on the Apollo 11 mission. Among the highlights are two lunar daguerreotypes from the 1840s, believed to be the earliest existing photographs of the moon, and the Paris Observatory's 1894–1908 photographic atlas of the moon, which is displayed for the first time in its entirety.
