Between Crown and Congress: New York's Jews During the American Revolution - Liberty 250 Lecture
Nov 2, 2026
Description
How did the American Revolution change life for New York’s Jewish community? To find out, go to this Fraunces Tavern Museum lecture by Zachary Edinger of Congregation Shearith Israel, often called The Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue. He'll explore the stories of divided families, a synagogue that remained open under British occupation and a community finding its place in a new nation. Learn how members embraced American ideals of civil and religious liberty while preserving their Sephardic Jewish traditions. The talk takes place from 6:30pm–7:30pm; you can attend in person or via Zoom.
