Description

Noho’s Sheen Center celebrates Black History Month with thought-provoking film and theater events. The first is a screening to mark the 30th anniversary of the Academy Award-winning film Mississippi Burning, followed by a panel discussion (February 4). There will be two performances on February 20 of an immersive theater presentation created in conjunction with the American Slavery Project. Haunted Files incorporates audience interaction along with talkbacks about the history of eugenics and scientific racism in America. Also this month is a screening of the documentary Forgiveness Makes You Free, which highlights the efforts of Fr. Ubald Rugirangoga to bring peace and forgiveness to the people of Rwanda following the 1994 genocide (February 22). A special panel discussion after the showing includes Fr. Ubald as well as the documentary's producer/director and other special guests.
