Description

This afternoon of basketball celebrates Rucker Park's recent designation under the National Commemorative Site Act, which recognizes the park's basketball legacy as well as its significance to Harlem and Black culture. Exhibition games feature schools from Boston, Philadelphia and New York City, and there will be appearances by New York Knick Deuce McBride, former US Olympian Gail Marquis, Hall of Famer Nate "Tiny" Archibald and basketball pioneer Nancy Lieberman—the last three of whom are native New Yorkers. The day will also include performances of "Lift Ev'ry Voice & Sing" by Songs of Solomon Choir and "Ode To Rucker Park" by Shawn Best.
