Events /Christo and Jeanne-Claude: The Gates and Unrealized Projects for New York City
People walk beneath a series of orange fabric gates in an outdoor art installation. The scene is set in a park with towering buildings in the background, and a pond partly covered with ice is visible.
A cityscape view with tall buildings in the background and rows of orange flags on frames lining a park path. Leafless trees stand among the flags, reflecting in a calm pond below.

Description

For the 20th anniversary of The Gates, this two-part exhibit explores that landmark exhibit and provides a look into the other large-scale projects that Christo and Jeanne-Claude planned. The first section of the exhibition, dedicated to The Gates, includes original artworks by Christo, components from the Central Park installation and a virtual journey through the project's development. The second part features models and digital reproductions that showcase the creative process behind the large-scale projects that did not come to fruition. The exhibition has a digital AR component, available through Bloomberg Connects, that allows visitors to Central Park to virtually experience some of the original Gates work.
