Counter-Couture: Handmade Fashion in an American Counterculture
This event has already occurred
Description
This exhibition presents the fashion and style of the 1960s and 1970s. These hippie, boho garments represented not only an aesthetic of the time, but a countercultural lifestyle that was outspoken and unconventional. The clothing, usually handmade with patchwork, quilting, sewing or tie-dye, embodied the spirit of anti-Vietnam War and pro-civil rights movements. Embroidered boots, leather capes and clothing with feathers and beads are among the statement pieces.
