The Center for Fiction: Cristina Rivera Garza in Conversation with Rita Indiana
Feb 10, 2026
Description
The International Library presents an evening with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Cristina Rivera Garza (Liliana’s Invincible Summer) as she discusses her new novel, Autobiography of Cotton, in conversation with writer and composer Rita Indiana at the Center for Fiction. Blending history, archival research, fiction and personal inquiry, Rivera Garza traces the lives of campesinos and laborers in the cotton-growing region between Tamaulipas, Mexico, and Texas—exploring migration, displacement and the enduring impact of the modern border. Together, Rivera Garza and Indiana will reflect on literature’s power to excavate memory, reclaim land and lineage and illuminate where personal and collective histories meet.
