Description

In 2004, after an international competition with over 5,000 submissions from 63 countries, the final design for the 9/11 Memorial was selected by a jury of 13. This program, introduced by Bloomberg Philanthropies CEO Patricia E. Harris and moderated by Executive Vice President of Collections & Chief Curator Dr. Jan Ramirez, reunites jury members Paula Berry (9/11 family member) and James E. Young (historian) to reflect on the principles behind their decision and the role of public engagement in shaping spaces of remembrance. The evening also debuts newly digitized versions of the original competition boards, made possible by the Leon Levy Foundation.
