Diane Arbus: In the Park
This event has already occurred
Description
As a champion of provocative and striking portraiture, it comes as no surprise that Diane Arbus frequented NYC parks in the late 1950s and early ’60s to photograph their idiosyncratic visitors. Images of these strangers turned out to be some of her best-known work. The first exhibition to exclusively feature Arbus’ photos from Central Park and Washington Square Park will be displayed at the Lévy Gorvy gallery, mere miles from where some of the images were first captured. This exhibit spans the bulk of her career, collecting photos from as early as 1956 and closing with one of her images, A young man and his girlfriend with hot dogs in the park, N.Y.C, taken in the year of her death, 1971.
