Description
With events on the weekend before Earth Day (Wednesday, April 22) as well as throughout the week, New York City celebrates sustainability and ways to live in harmony with the planet. Below we’ve listed a few events where you can honor our planet; Union Square is the usual primary host of Earth Day events, but there are happenings both big and small across the City. Consult the Parks Department website for more activities beyond the ones below,
April 17–18: Earth Day on Governors Island includes activities for all ages, science exhibits, an island-wide scavenger hunt, art, music and walking tours.
April 19: Earth Day Initiative’s in-person Earth Day activities take place in Union Square Park. Come to talk to science-forward and environmentally conscious exhibitors, meet fellow activists, watch performances and hear speakers in this daylong event.
April 19: Earth Day Weekend at Wave Hill includes art projects, guided garden walks and volunteer opportunities.
April 22: Bee-a-Pollinator at Queens County Farm Museum is a chance to clean up and contribute to the farmland while also enjoy tractor rides and other fun events.
