Fresh, Fly, and Fabulous: Fifty Years of Hip Hop Style
This event has already occurred
Description
August 11, 1973—the date of DJ Kool Herc's back-to-school party in his family’s Bronx rec room—is credited with the birth of hip-hop. In the five decades since, hip-hop has spread as a global phenomenon, going well beyond music to influence fashion, politics, sports and most every other facet of culture. This exhibit focuses on fashion as a visible manifestation of hip-hop culture, with highlights including Michael Hoban’s 8-ball jacket, Nike’s Air Jordan high-top sneakers and a Puma by Rihanna parachute jacket ensemble.
