Two people kneel onstage, both wearing white shirts and jeans. One of them smiles with hands on her knees, while the other holds a metal cup. Warm lighting and simple props set a casual, intimate scene.

Description

Carmen Rivera’s celebrated play La Gringa follows María Elena García, a New Yorker visiting Puerto Rico for the first time. Despite knowing its history, locals see her as a “gringa,” sparking a journey of identity and belonging. Performed in Spanish with English supertitles, it’s the longest-running Spanish-language production in Off-Broadway history (30 years in February 2026), acclaimed for its humor, heart and insight.
