Description

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, this New York Public Library exhibit looks at the history of the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement that began in the summer of 1969 with riots in the West Village. The photographs of two pioneering photojournalists, Kay Tobin Lahusen and Diana Davies, are at the center of this examination of how this civil rights movement grew and evolved in the years after Stonewall. There will also be extensive archival holdings from the library itself, including pamphlets, periodicals, posters and other items to tell the story of Stonewall's call for equality and justice, and how it was answered by the community.
