Description
New York City’s original role was as a seaport. The land near where the Seaport Museum stands was once home to Indigenous people and, later, enslaved Africans; it is where ships arrived bringing the people, languages and cultures that shaped the City over the past 400 years. This exhibit, made up of more than 500 items from the museum's collection, showcases this legacy of immigration, industry and urban growth.
