This exhibition of rarely seen mummies explores the similarities and differences between mummies in ancient Egypt and pre-Columbian Peru. Mummification was not limited to royal Egyptians—it was also used for common people and animals. In the Chancay culture of Peru, families used mummification to remain close with their loved ones and sometimes even brought mummies to festivals. Interactive tables and high-resolution CT scans will allow visitors to see inside the mummies and to understand how scientists have used new techniques to learn about the mummies' ages, lives and causes of death.
