Description
Pacita Abad is known for her trapuntos—large painted canvases that she stitched and stuffed to give them texture—a style she began in the 1980s after spending time with local makers in Southeast Asia. This first major retrospective of Abad’s career, organized by the Walker Art Center, falls on the 20th anniversary of her death. Many of the 100 or so works, which include a number of forms beyond the trapunto, have not previously been on public view.
