Description

This secular celebration at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine has been an annual event since 1980. The perfectly named soprano saxophonist Paul Winter leads four performances of musicians and dancers honoring the earth and the sun. The cathedral’s massive scale is put to good use with the addition of a 28-foot aluminum “Solstice Tree” and a gong (reportedly the world’s largest) rung from 100 feet up.
