Pioneer Sailing Season
This event has already occurred
Description
Coastal schooners filled the role of delivery trucks in the era before paved roads when they would serve coastal communities from the Maine islands to Chesapeake Bay and beyond. Pioneer was the first of two cargo sloops built of iron in the 19th century and the only iron-hulled American merchant vessel still in existence. Today the ship offers daytime and evening cruises that teach maritime skills and the history of tall ships. Cruise tickets include same-day admission to the museum's galleries.
