Description
To mark the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the Morgan Library & Museum displays six artifacts highlighting the nation’s founding. The centerpiece is a rare copy of the Declaration of Independence, one of only 26 surviving copies printed on July 4, 1776. Other works include Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, letters from Patrick Henry and Martha Washington describing Revolutionary concerns, and a 1785 life mask of George Washington by French sculptor Jean-Antoine Houdon.
