This event has already occurred
Description
This year’s Costume Institute exhibition and gala fetes the sleek Japanese fashion brand Comme des Garçons. The show will focus on the work of Rei Kawakubo, the label’s founder and designer, known for her wildly experimental pieces. Comme des Garçons has been redefining fashion for 35 years through its use of uncommon fabrics, shapes and themes; the exhibition will feature 120 Comme des Garçons pieces. This is the second show at the museum to focus entirely on a living designer; the first was Yves Saint Laurent in 1983.
