Description

Fire Island’s Cherry Grove served as a midcentury refuge for gay men and women—including Truman Capote, W.H. Auden, Carson McCullers and Patricia Highsmith—who were not safe in the straight world. This exhibit, on view outdoors in the museum's courtyard, explores this community’s legacy through some 70 photographs and ephemera from the Cherry Grove Archives Collection.
