Description

While famous in Nordic countries, Finnish painter Helene Schjerfbeck is not well known throughout the rest of the world—even though she earned herself a place as one of the most important modern artists in history. Schjerfbeck lived a difficult life and faced many personal struggles, but she persevered and created a collection of works that showcase her highly original style for portraits and still-life paintings. This exhibition is the first in the US to showcase her work in a major art museum and includes 60 works on loan from other galleries and private collections.
