Shakespeare in the Park
May 22, 2026 - Aug 23, 2026
Description
The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park is back with two summer productions. Romeo & Juliet (May 22–June 28), staged for the first time in almost 20 years, a couple as the picture of young love whose families, the warring Montagues and Capulets, will never allow it. The tale of the doomed lovers is performed in English, with Romeo (Daniel Bravo Hernández) and Juliet (Ra’Mya Latiah Aikens) speaking to each other in Spanish—a testament to their bond in their own world. Saheem Ali directs.
The Winter's Tale (July 25–August 23), the Bard’s story of defiance and destiny, comes next. After King Leontes falsely accuses his wife, Hermione, of adultery, she is imprisoned and eventually dies. Their son also dies and their infant daughter, Perdita, is sent into exile. Sixteen years later, Perdita’s return sets in motion a series of conciliatory events. Tony winner Daniel Sullivan directs.
