She-Merchants, Sachems, and Slaves: Women in Colonial New York
This event has already occurred
Description
During its Dutch colonial days, New York City was one of the most diverse colonies thanks to the various races and religions that called the City home. But these clashing cultures sometimes didn’t agree on how to treat women. Historian Sarah Wassberg Johnson leads a talk about women’s rights (or lack thereof) in Munsee, Iroquois, African, Dutch and English cultures, which served to influence New York City in its infancy.
