Description

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, the museum hosts two exhibits and one installation exploring LGBTQ+ history in NYC. Letting Loose and Fighting Back: LGBTQ+ Nightlife Before and After Stonewall  focuses on the City's storied queer nightlife scene and how it created community, fostered policital connections and even influenced pop culture. The other major exhibit is By the Force of Our Presence: Highlights from the Lesbian Herstory Archives, which looks at lesbian urban life both pre-1969 and afterward, and how it was key in the building institutions and organizing the fight for gay rights. Also on diplay will be a special graphic installation at the museum, Say It Loud, Out and Proud: Fifty Years of Pride, which surveys imagery and iconography from 50 years of the City's Pride Marches.
