Description
This exhibition traces the 300-year-plus history of tattooing in New York City. See examples from the area’s early Native American cultures—along with more current designs—and learn about important moments in skin-art history (like the City’s ban on tattoo parlors, which lasted from 1961 to 1997). More than 250 items will be on display, including an electric pen made by Thomas Edison (a precursor to a tattoo needle gun) and work from some of the Bowery’s most famous tattoo artists, like Mike Bakaty.
