Description

August 27, 1776. The largest single battle of the Revolutionary War was fought right here in New York, in the marshy fields of Gowanus and Red Hook, to be exact. Because it is the story of a battle lost, it doesn't occupy the same place in our nation's history that Bunker Hill, Saratoga and Yorktown do. This exhibit, which includes a camp bed used by George Washington during the war, Thomas Paine's Common Sense, brings some of the key pieces of the Battle back to NYC 240 years later. For more information, visit nyhistory.org.
