The Codex and Crafts in Late Antiquity
This event has already occurred
Description
The change in formatting of books from roll to codex is considered one of the most culturally significant innovations of late antiquity, the period between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD. It is considered an innovation rather than invention because the techniques drew on those already employed by artisans and craftspeople of the time. This exhibit explores the structural, technical and decorative features of the major forms of codices: wooden tablet, single-gathering and multigathering.
