Description

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson both died on July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. According to John Quincy Adams, his father's last words were “Thomas Jefferson survives.”  Five years later, on July 4, 1831, James Monroe, the last of the Founding Fathers to hold office, died in New York. This symposium is offered in person at Fraunces Tavern and available via livestream.
