Somehow, The Shins were born fully developed; a band that delivered pristine, perfect sonic nuggets right from its inception. That’s been true for five albums now, the result of James Mercer’s obsessive songwriting. The band—which has really been Mercer and guests for nearly a decade—seems to be having slightly more dreamy, strummy fun with this year’s Heartworms.
