Torture Island: Past, Present, Future
Feb 1, 2025 - Ongoing
Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri & Sat
Description
Rikers Island in the East River is New York’s best-known jail—but its reputation is mainly one of notoriety. This exhibition serves to highlight its indiscretions, to counter the dehumanizing characterization of those who have been incarcerated there and to advance the movement to close the facility altogether (which the New York City Council approved to take place on December 31, 2026, though that date seems unlikely). Programming includes panel discussions, workshops, screenings and tours.
