This event has already occurred
Description
The Morgan Library & Museum celebrates the 200th anniversary of the birth of Walt Whitman, one of the most influential poets who ever lived. Born on Long Island, he worked as a journalist in New York City and, later in life, began to write more privately, which is when he produced most of his poetry. The Morgan displays several of Whitman’s notebooks, a copy of his controversial poetry collection Leaves of Grass, a letter written to him from Ralph Waldo Emerson and works of other writers who were influenced by Whitman, such as Oscar Wilde and Allen Ginsberg.
