Description

In 1976, as America was celebrating its 200th birthday, New York City was in turmoil—facing a surge in crime, nearing bankruptcy and battling a drug and housing crisis. But it was also during this time that the City’s youth discovered and popularized new musical genres, including disco, punk and hip-hop, and effectively changed music history. The New York Historical traces this period in an exhibition full of music, fashion and photography that immerses visitors in this transformative time.
