Zidane, a 21st Century Portrait
Jun 11, 2026 - Jul 19, 2026
Description
Coinciding with the World Cup taking place in the NYC metropolitan area this summer, the Guggenheim presents this video installation that captures the talent and athleticism of retired soccer star Zinedine Zidane. Compiled by artists Douglas Gordon and Philippe Parreno, this project is assembled from 17 synchronized cameras that followed Zidane during a single match in 2005—including spliced footage from the live television broadcast. The Guggenheim exhibit also features a dual-channel component, with the cinematic version playing on one screen and the raw footage from one of the 17 cameras playing on another simultaneously.
