Depuis que HBO a commencé à diffuser des films à Bryant Park en 1992, les projections gratuites de films sont devenues une tradition estivale dans la ville. Toutes sortes de films - des classiques d'Hollywood, des blockbusters actuels et des joyaux de l'indie - sont projetés en plein air dans les cinq arrondissements, avec des décors époustouflants comme l'horizon de Manhattan (Brooklyn Bridge Park Movies with a View) et le cyclone de Coney Island (Coney Island Flicks on the Beach).
