La première adresse permanente de l’emblématique chanteur-compositeur à New York se trouvait au 161 West 4th Street, dans le West Village. Dylan et sa petite amie Suze Rotolo déménagent dans cet appartement en décembre 1961 peu après avoir enregistré son premier album. La photographie de Dylan et Rotolo utilisée pour la couverture de The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan de 1963 a été prise au coin de la rue.
