Le musée FIT célèbre ses 50 ans d’existence en 2019, ayant accueilli plus de 200 expositions depuis les années 1970, dont beaucoup ont été primées. Trente-trois de leurs plus grands succès et de leurs plus influents sont mis en avant dans cette célébration, notamment Fashion and Surrealism (1987), A Queer History of Fashion (2013), Fairy Tale Fashion (2016) et Black Fashion Designers (2017).
