Description
Pop art emerged in the 1950s and 1960s as a counterpoint to traditional “high art” by using pop culture icons and consumer goods to create art that was fun, ironic and familiar. Andy Warhol’s Campbell’s Soup Cans and Marilyn Monroe screen prints are some of the most recognizable works from this time period. The Guggenheim traces the evolution of pop art, pairing works from contemporary artists like Maurizio Cattelan, Lucía Hierro and Josh Kline with those from Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and others whose creations emerged in the post–World War II era.
