Le week-end du Memorial Day, fin mai, marque le début officiel de la saison de plage dans la ville. Rendez-vous à Brighton Beach and Coney Island (Brooklyn) pour observer les gens, Rockaway Beach (Queens) pour surfer et Orchard Beach (le Bronx) pour observer la faune variée du Pelham Bay Park. Les sauveteurs sont en service tous les jours (de 10 h à 18 h) du week-end du Memorial Day au dimanche après le week-end du Labor Day, début septembre.
