1
Credo
1
9 Prince St.
The best option for those looking for all-natural products, Credo stocks brands that are cruelty-free, vegan and organic—which should slightly offset the sticker shock (you’re helping the planet!). They are so dedicated to the au naturel that they even list the 23 chemical ingredients you’ll never find in the brands they carry—Red Flower, One Love Organics, ILIA and Juice Beauty, to name a few.
2
Cire Trudon
2
146 Spring St.
The 376-year-old French candlemaker—whose products lit up the Palace of Versailles during the reigns of both Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette—still holds its status today as an elite chandler. Its first US shop sells candles as well as soaps and fragrant room sprays. The luxurious scents contain herbal, powdery and fruity notes.
3
Daphne Studio
3
375 Broome St.
This spa, which specializes in natural beauty and body treatments—including facials, exfoliations and something called sugaring (less-painful-than-waxing hair removal)—also carries hard-to-find European beauty products. One of the latter is French botanical skincare line Biologique Recherche, which has developed holy grail status in Europe and is almost impossible to get in the US.
4
Atelier Cologne
4
247 Elizabeth St.
Made exclusively in France, Atelier Cologne uses raw materials and citrus blends to create an elegant and powerful perfume. The natural formulas contain the highest concentration of essential oils useable for perfume (meaning the scent will last all day). The husband-and-wife team behind this brand encourage shoppers to choose different parfums and colognes for various occasions.
5
Le Labo
5
233 Elizabeth St.
Featuring a selection of niche scents, Le Labo allows customers to personalize their very own smell using heavier base notes. Though the smoky and musky Santal 33 is its most popular scent, the French brand’s Elizabeth Street shop carries a number of bespoke mixers that are blended right in front of you. Their apothecary packaging and unique naming convention (a number is always involved) make the product even more appealing.

6
Aesop
6
226 Elizabeth St.
This Aussie beauty brand is known for its sweet-smelling hand balms, soaps and skin serums. The packaging unites the design and beauty crowd with its carefully chosen colors and neat typography.

7
Santa Maria Novella
7
285 Lafayette St.
Founded in Florence in 1221, this Italian line carries luxe perfumes and beauty products made from ancient recipes concocted by Dominican friars who hand mixed their ingredients (think: bugs, herbs, spices and medicinal elixirs). During the Renaissance period the monks created an Acqua Della Regina for Catherine de’ Medici who was to wed King Henry II, using alcohol as a base ingredient, as well as bergamot and aromatic spices. That scent is still available today, as is the popular spicy potpourri, crafted the old-school way (in terra-cotta vats), and the refreshing rose water. This location is the exclusive US distributor of Santa Maria Novella products.

Space NK
8
31 Prince St.
Founded in 1993, Space NK (named after founder Nicky Kinnaird) has successfully turned then-small brands like By Terry, Laura Mercier and Eve Lom into names carried in every beauty junkie’s cabinet. Kinnard’s taste and eye for beauty is apparent in the shop’s decor—dark wood floors and polished white shelves that carry exclusive beauty products from Miriam Quevedo, Goldfaden MD and Surratt Beauty.
