The Brooklyn Star

Out of Business

Description

The Brooklyn Star is a far cry from the dashing Momofuku and the tiki-themed Rusty Knot, where chef Joaquin Baca cut his chops. In a quiet, frumpy part of Williamsburg, he's working in a tiny exposed kitchen, turning out Southern comfort food. He braises ribs in Dr. Pepper and finishes them with a barbecue sauce laced with more Dr. Pepper. His hot meatloaf sandwich is on country white bread, his roasted trout served with creamed corn. It's just the thing for hard times or when you're looking for some soul. The space is bare-bones and handmade, with a communal table, banquettes and wood paneling.
